When are the fireworks at Smith Mountain Lake?
Whether you’re looking to stay on land or get out on the water for Smith Mountain Lake fireworks you’ll find something to suit your tastes at one of these events. In 2026, you have a number of options to choose from, many of which benefit local fire and rescue squads and other non-profits. Here are your best bets!
Mitchell’s Point Marina Fireworks 2026
Thursday, July 2
Mitchell’s Point Marina fireworks begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.) on July 5. Festivities start at 7 p.m. The event is free but donations will be accepted for Semper Fi & America’s Fund and Operation Command.
Parking is limited at Mitchell’s Point so you may have to walk approximately 3/4 of a mile to the marina. It’s best to view these fireworks on Smith Mountain Lake by boat from Craddock Creek near channel marker C3.
Parkway Marina Fireworks 2026
Saturday, July 4
Parkway Marina fireworks, traditionally the largest annual display of fireworks at Smith Mountain Lake, will take place on July 4.
Gates open at 5 p.m. with live music by Glen Shelton starting at 6. Food, drinks and activities for kids. Proceeds benefit the Saunders Volunteer Fire Company.
This is a popular way to see Smith Mountain Lake fireworks on the water (near channel marker R8). Many locals and residents make it a tradition to come to the Smith Mountain Lake fireworks by boat each year.
Parkway Marina fireworks start shortly after dark. Also, it’s important to note that the viewing area is a no-wake zone. Please be patient, safe and courteous.

Rocky Mount VA Fireworks 2026
Thursday, July 2
OK, technically this is not at Smith Mountain Lake. However, the Rotary Club of Rocky Mount does such a fantastic job with the 4th of July Independence Festival in Rocky Mount, we just couldn’t leave this one out!
The 43rd annual celebration will start at 5 p.m. on July 2 on the football field of Franklin County High School. Admission is free and there will be live music throughout the evening, food, children’s activities, raffles and more. Fireworks will begin shortly after dusk. Bring your own blankets and/or lawn chairs.
