When are the fireworks at Smith Mountain Lake?
Whether you’re looking to stay on land or get out on the water for Smith Mountain Lake fireworks you’ll find something to suit your tastes at one of these events. In 2025, you have a number of options to choose from, many of which benefit local fire and rescue squads and other non-profits. Here are your best bets!
Parkway Marina Fireworks 2025
Friday, July 4
Parkway Marina fireworks, traditionally the largest annual display of fireworks at Smith Mountain Lake, will take place on July 4.
Gates open at 5 p.m. with live music by the Tate Tuck Band starting at 6. Food, drinks and activities for kids. Proceeds benefit the Saunders Volunteer Fire Company.
This is a popular way to see Smith Mountain Lake fireworks on the water (near channel marker R8). Many locals and residents make it a tradition to come to the Smith Mountain Lake fireworks by boat each year.
Parkway Marina fireworks start shortly after dark. Also, it’s important to note that the viewing area is a no-wake zone. Please be patient, safe and courteous.
Mitchell’s Point Marina Fireworks 2025
Saturday, July 5
Mitchell’s Point Marina fireworks begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.) on July 5. Festivities start at 7 p.m. The event is free but donations will be accepted for Semper Fi & America’s Fund and Operation Command.
Parking is limited at Mitchell’s Point so you may have to walk approximately 3/4 of a mile to the marina. It’s best to view these fireworks on Smith Mountain Lake by boat from Craddock Creek near channel marker C3.

NEW! Wind Vineyards Fireworks 2025
Sunday, July 6
Come out to Wind Vineyards at Smith Mountain Lake and enjoy a brand-new celebration packed with fun for all ages. Dance to live music, sample delicious eats from food vendors and sip wine along with a variety of other beverages.
Bring the whole family for exciting activities including slides, games, bounce houses, hayrides and monster truck rides. Be sure to catch a special performance by the Walking Tall monster truck before the evening ends with fireworks.
Downtown Moneta Fireworks 2025
Downtown Moneta is not hosting FireWorx fest in 2025. Hopefully, it will return next year!
Rocky Mount VA Fireworks 2025
Friday, June 27
OK, technically this is not at Smith Mountain Lake. However, the Rotary Club of Rocky Mount does such a fantastic job with the 4th of July Independence Festival in Rocky Mount, we just couldn’t leave this one out!
The 42nd annual celebration will start at 5 p.m. on June 27 on the football field of Franklin County High School. Admission is free and there will be live music throughout the evening, food, children’s activities, raffles and more. Fireworks will begin shortly after dusk. Bring your own blankets and/or lawn chairs.
Fireworks at EastLake Community Church 2024
In lieu of a fireworks show, EastLake Community Church will host the BeastLake 5K and Obstacle Course races on July 6. The event will include a “stay cool” option to the course that includes a ‘slip n slide” type water slide down part of the course, an option to do the balance beam over an inflatable pool and an option to run through a section of sprinklers midway through the race.
However, if you want to see EastLake fireworks, be sure to mark your calendar for Sept. 1 or 2 (date is tentative as of this posting) when the church will hold a free outdoor festival with food vendors, activities for kids and live music followed by fireworks. More info at eastlake-church.com.

There is no better place to be than Smith Mountain Lake for 4th of July weekend so choose a date and make soaking up the oooohs and ahhhs of SML fireworks a tradition with friends and family.
