Smith Mountain Lake home technology products are something buyers tell me they love seeing when I show homes. That’s because home tech gadgets not only make their lives easier, but often help save money or provide an extra level of security.
Following are some of my favorite tech products that will add functionality to your SML home and make it more attractive to future buyers. Most are under $150 so they won’t put too big of a dent in your wallet!
Smart Thermostat
A device that automatically adjusts heating and cooling temperature settings in your home for optimal performance. Programmable for easy use and can save you money.
Examples: Nest Indoor Security Camera ($188), ecobee3 lite Smart Thermostat ($170)
Video Doorbell
A device that connects to your home Wi-Fi network and sends real-time notifications to your smart phone or tablet when someone is at your door. You can see a video stream of the person at your door and speak to them using two-way audio communication.
Example: Ring Wi-Fi Enabled Video Doorbell ($100)
Indoor Security Cameras
These devices allow you to view a live feed of your home and get motion detection notifications on your smart phone. Simply set it on your mantle or other prime location and you’re good to go.

Smart Light Bulbs
Enhance your home with soft white lighting, controlled remotely wherever you are. Set timers and light schedules, automating your lights to make it seem like someone is home even when you are away. Works with voice-activated devices like Amazon Alexa, Apple Homekit and Google Assistant.
Example: Philips Hue Smart Light Bulbs ($70)
Wi-Fi Connected Electrical Outlet
Useful for controlling with your phone appliances such as a coffee maker, curling iron or humidifier. Use the app on your smartphone to schedule the fan to turn on before you arrive, sync lamps to sunrise/sunset, or pre-set times automatically.
