PGA Tour Hall of Famer Tom Watson made a special charity stop at Smith Mountain Lake last week.
The golf professional was the American Cancer Society’s annual Swing Fore a Cure special guest. He took part in the tournament, which took place at The Water’s Edge Country Club and golf course in Penhook, and told news reporters he enjoyed the beautiful mountainous views at Smith Mountain Lake.
Watson graciously gave a golf clinic for players and took a group photo with each team. He also autographed two golf bags with the 2014 Ryder Cup logo for a live auction. The tournament is the country’s largest golf fundraiser for ACS and this year raised $640,000 – up considerably from last year’s $492,000.
