Nestled in the gorgeous beautiful blue ridge mountains the epitome of a fun fall family day lies. Layman Family Farms; The Great Pumpkin Patch. Situated on a sprawling 87 acre farm the farm offers a bit of everything fall. A 5 acre parking lot boasts plenty of room for guest parking. As you enter the farm you will enter through beautifully landscaped fall flowers to a rustic store front where customers will purchase your tickets to enter. The store front also serves as the checkout system to pay for pumpkins, gourds or other fall fruits. A variety of local farm grown goods are also offered for sale. Inside find a 10 acre corn maze, a corn crib for kids, a farm animal alley, and to many a delight, a pumpkin cannon and corn shooter.
Little ones love to take a spin on the cow train. An invention of “cow cars” towed along by a tractor. A hay ride will deliver you to one of the largest pumpkin patches in the area where you can pick out the perfect pumpkin or two! There are slides and a bounce pillow for older kids to enjoy as well. Every year the corn maze is cut into a different design chosen by the Layman family. This years theme is Charlie Brown and The Great Pumpkin.
An aerial view proves it is truly in the form of the iconic Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Follow clues to escape the maze, but don’t be fooled its harder then it looks. All of this excitement will work up an appetite. An open picnic area serves as a great gathering place for families and friends. Food trucks offering delicious items such as potato ribbons, fried Oreo’s and funnel cakes are a hit with all. This year Layman Family Farms was chosen as number one on the list for Fall Festival’s and Events in the Blue Ridge.
