Over the past few years, the Smith Mountain Lake healthcare has exploded. The SML community’s growing population, increasing commercial developments and additions of healthcare companies and private providers have come together to create the most convenient and complete coverage the area has ever had – and it continues to expand across the area.
There are three primary healthcare networks providing coverage across southwestern Virginia rounding out Smith Mountain Lake healthcare. Most of the larger companies are based in nearby cities of Roanoke, Salem and Lynchburg, with some of their newest, most modern facilities located at SML. Centra Health, Carilion Clinic and LewisGale Regional Health System all excel at giving quality and comprehensive care.
CENTRA HEALTH
Centra Health is a Lynchburg-based network providing health care coverage on the Bedford side of Smith Mountain Lake. Centra has partnerships with Smith Mountain Lake healthcare clinics including a family practice and a heart center clinic specializing in cardiology. Centra is continually increasing its presence at Smith Mountain Lake by partnering with local physicians and expanding services at existing clinics.
CARILION CLINIC
Carilion Clinic, based in Roanoke, has had a strong presence at SML for some time. A hospital in Rocky Mount and a number of primary care physicians have long been established at or within a few minutes’ drive to SML. In 2009, the network added a state-of-the-art imaging facility with urgent care, sleep lab and helipad in Westlake. Carilion has long-term plans to keep up with the residential growth and health-related needs at Smith Mountain Lake.
LEWISGALE REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM
LewisGale Regional Health System is based in Salem, Virginia, and provides quality healthcare for many Smith Mountain Lake locals. Its parent company, HCA Inc., headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, is the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. LewisGale has practices at Smith Mountain Lake including Cardiology, Rheumatology and Pulmonology specialty clinics.
In addition to healthcare providers, Smith Mountain Lake has several health-related businesses and vendors giving local residents convenient options for getting the supplements, fitness equipment and natural health products popular today.
